SNAKE

Moscow 2022

Concept and architectural supervision: Basis architectural bureau Design and construction: Cheharda studio
The playground is inspired by the name of the residential complex in which it is located. It is the first children’s space in Moscow where, thanks to complex technical solutions, a musical concept and a modern approach to children’s physical and intellectual development have seamlessly converged.

Toddlers will find Caribbean white sand, a tactile wall, and various shape sorters here, while older children will discover horizontal nets and installations with optical and musical effects. We have also included slides, an active play zone, trampolines, and vine-like ropes for teenagers up to 14 years old.

The central play element is a year-round, bell-shaped slide. Children’s slides of this scale are quite rare. By bringing an experienced campanologist—a specialist in bell making—onto the project team, we managed to make it not only visually striking but also maximally safe for children.

All play elements form a single, cohesive route. By navigating it, children gain new experiences, develop communication skills, hone their agility, and experience positive emotions.

Area: 450 m² includes: a multifunctional play art object and impact-absorbing surfaces.

THE OLD LIGHTHOUSE

Moscow 2021

A large playground featuring a towering art object in the shape of a lighthouse is integrated into the multifunctional leisure zone of the "Ostafyevo" residential complex.

According to the legend, an old lighthouse on a distant ocean island once suffered damage from a severe storm. Joining forces, the children built scaffolding around the lighthouse, as well as suspension bridges to neighboring islands, making it easier for them to travel from their homes to the construction site.

The central architectural landmark of the playground is a 10-meter-tall play art object featuring a slide, an observation deck, and "scaffolding." To convey the image of an old, weather-beaten lighthouse, trees with natural, unaltered geometry were used in its cladding. Nine-meter-tall tree trunks with branches were carefully selected so they could wrap around the circumference of the lighthouse, preserving its silhouette and forming a cohesive shape. In the lighthouse’s cladding, the trees are interwoven in three layers. The final placement of each tree was determined directly on-site, and as a result, every single branch found its place within a complex interweaving of unpredictable forms!

This unique solution has no global equivalents; it lends the lighthouse artistic value and mystery, offering numerous ways to interpret the created image.

In addition to the architectural focal point, the "Old Lighthouse" play hub unites several distinct play islands: a sand island, a climbing island, and a movement island. They are separated by pathways and connected to each other by suspended tunnels. Together, these play elements provide a full range of diverse physical activities, promoting harmonious physical development and brain development.
SPIDERS

Ulyanovsk 2020

Set against the backdrop of modern high-rise development, this playground offers not just a natural play space, but one that is mysterious, unexplored, and unique. Here, a fragment of the insect world is recreated, where huge webs are woven and houses are built from twigs. A world that both allures and thrills…

"The Spiders" is a natural play hub designed to be engaging for children, teenagers, and adults alike. The space is divided into several distinct zones.
"Sandy Shore" is a zone for toddlers to develop fine motor skills, featuring a sand-pouring station and a massive sandbox that is easily accessible… by sliding right down a slide.

"Climbing Thickets" is a zone for children aged 3−7, where they can test their balance, strength, and agility on spinners and rope climbers. "Swaying Reeds" is a zone for children aged 3−12, featuring various types of swings and platforms for jumping.

The heart and focal point of the entire playground is the "Spiders" art object and play complex. It features two spider-nest towers, rope tunnels, and a massive slide, all of which can only be accessed via nets, rope courses, or 3D labyrinths. The entire playground is visible from the high towers, and in the evenings, they serve as a perfect gathering spot for teenagers. Different types of wood were used to build the towers, and their combination gives the art object a magical, fairy-tale allure.

The "Spiders" playground also features a spacious meadow where visitors can play active games or gather with a large group. The area is surrounded by green hills, which not only create additional opportunities for play but also make the space feel complete and truly natural.
